CBD May Support Immune Function

Our immune systems are often our first line of defense when it comes to battling major illnesses and infection in our bodies, By maintaining a healthy immune system and keeping your gut healthy, you carry much less risk of getting sick.

When you are sick your body is fighting pathogens and bacterial infections, it can make it difficult for the body to perform at an optimum level, recovery times and your bodies natural cell regeneration is slowed. If your immune system is compromised run a higher risk of getting sick and those sicknesses leading to complications.

Staying healthy has become such an important part of our everyday lives. Sanitizing, washing our hands and keeping our immune systems strong should be a priority of every single individual. With a global pandemic running rife through our communities, it is our responsibility to look after our health as best we can, not only for our own well being and safety but to keep those who are more vulnerable and susceptive to falling ill, safe from harm and getting sick.

By taking steps to improve your health, improving your immune functions and living healthier lifestyles, we give ourselves the best platform to live long, happy and fruitful lives. CBD has been shown to have a host of benefits for a range of different things, but how does CBD improve Immune Function and can it be used to improve overall health?

1. Boosting The ECS (Endocannabinoid System)

The cannabinoids found in cannabis plants; all produce certain reactions and effects in our bodies by attaching themselves to certain receptors. The body produces its own cannabinoids, which are neurotransmitters, these bind to the cannabinoid receptors found throughout your nervous systemas well as producing two receptors for cannabinoids called CB1 and CB2 which allow our body to benefit when ingesting CBD and other cannabinoids. Taking CBD, impacts the endocannabinoid receptors activity.

CB1 is mostly present in the brain but also can be found throughout the body. These receptors in the brain deal with coordination, movement, pain, emotions, mood, thinking, appetite, and memories, and more. THC attaches to CB1. CB2 receptors are often found in your immune system and primarily impact pain and inflammation.

It was once thought that CBD attached directly to the CB2 receptors, but now we know that CBD doesn’t attach to either receptor directly. this means that CBD helps in controlling and regulating the bodies ECS by directing the body to use more of its own cannabinoids and impacts these receptors indirectly.

More Scientific research on CBD and its effects on our bodies ECS is still needed, even though many positive results are showing up everywhere! Research into CBD is still in its early stages and scientists are still learning new ways in which CBD and other cannabinoids from the cannabis plant interact with our ECS and our bodily functions.

2. CBD aiding in Restful Sleep

CBD may help by treating the root causes of sleeplessness. Getting quality sleep is one of the most important parts of maintaining a healthy immune system and improving your overall health.  CBD is one cannabinoid that has been found to interact indirectly with the CB1 and CB2 receptors in your ECS (These two receptors and there interactions are considered by scientists to be the part of the ECS that aids with pain relief, inflammation, relaxation, and therefore sleep).

CBD has numerous positive health benefits such as decreasing insulin resistance and improving daytime energy. CBD can also improve the quality of life during all times of the day. CBD when taken daily can benefit your sleep-wake cycle, this means that during the day CBD can improve cognitive function, decrease sleepiness and reduce pain and anxiety and at night it can aid improving your overall amount and quality of sleep.  CBD seems to tackle many underlying causes of restless sleep and insomnia, by allowing the body to rest better and recover faster, CBD can be a great addition to those looking to boost their immune system, especially if suffering with autoimmune diseases like diabetes.

3. Cardiovasuclar Strength

Cardiovascular fitness is the capacity of the cardiovascular system (heart, lungs and vessels) to efficiently supply oxygenated blood to working muscles, as well as the muscles to use the oxygen delivered by the blood supply as a source of energy for movement. In other words, the definition of cardiovascular fitness is how well and efficiently your blood circulates through your body. The heart and the immune system are highly integrated systems cross-talking through cytokines, hormones and neurotransmitters. Their balance can be altered by numerous physical or psychological stressors.

CBD’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties may be able to reduce risk factors that can lead to heart disease, like high blood pressure. It may also be able to reduce the risk of related conditions, like strokes. Cannabidiol has also been found to help reduce artery blockage, prevent oxidative stress, and reduce blood pressure and can have a direct effect on isolated arteries, causing both acute and time-dependent vasorelaxation. (reduction of vascular tension)

By helping keep the balance of cytokines, hormones and neurotransmitters, and the way in which CBD interacts with our bodies. CBD can help both our cardiovascular systems and our immune system keep their balance and stay strong.

The above proves that CBD has a positive impact on your immune system and in a big way. It is definitely a great addition to a healthy lifestyle.

 4. Anti Bacterial and Anti Inflammatory properties

Inflammation is the normal response of your body’s immune system to injuries and harmful things that enter your body. Immune cells quickly react to the damaged area to fix the problem. During the process, you may feel symptoms like pain, warmth, swelling and redness.

CBD aids your body in reducing inflammation and can assist in fighting infections and the flu. CBD has also been shown to have anti-bacterial properties and could assist in treating bacterial infections. CBD as mentioned above interacts indirectly with CB1 and CB2 receptors in your endocannabinoid system (ECS). These two receptors are considered to be the part of the ECS that aids with pain relief, inflammation, relaxation. when dealing with colds and viruses, CBD has been found to have a very similar potency to that of common antibiotics.

CBD is also great for digestive health because its cortisol lowering benefits help to prevent leaky gut or intestinal permeability. Cortisol is a catabolic hormone. It breaks down tissues in the body, and it has a hugely destructive effect on the one cell thick lining of our GI tract.

The ECS’s receptors are highly concentrated in the brain, gut, and pelvis, all working together to maintain homeostasis throughout the body. The endocannabinoid system is involved in regulating food intake — especially fat intake — as well as digestive motility, nausea, intestinal inflammation, gut permeability, cancer cell proliferation, and complex interactions with probiotic bacteria of the intestines.
